i needa title for these shoes...

so, last night i watched 'the fountain'. and i kept associating hugh jackman with a canadian lumberjack, thanks to wolverine, and then i would remind myself he's actually australian, and then i thought of how good he is with accents.

anyway.

i finished the trees and got them mostly attached to the shoe. but i decided my time would be better spent doing the river, so i started it.

movies watched:
- the fountain
-the darjeeling limited
- franklyn

in other [depressing] news, my period hit hard today. i spent a couple hours curled up dozing and trying to ride out the cramps. it's really annoying how sometimes i have ridiculously debilitating cramps, and sometimes i've got almost none. last semester i left jewelry early they were so bad. today i stayed in bed, and then i went to make a sandwich cuz i was starving, i ended up spending at least half an hour semi-conscious on the sofa.

i'm seeing "alice in wonderland" tomorrow with angela. hopefully it'll be awesome. after the movie i'm gonna watch the oscars.

and i need to stop messing around and get back to work. i've done about 2.5 sq in on the river, and i need to kick up the pace.

related: switzerland as alice. ok, maybe it's just crack...

OH MY FUCKING GOD LOST YOU ARE BLOWING MY MIND I CAN'T EVEN THINK AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

ahem

so. tonight we finally learned the meaning of the numbers. and the lists. and i flipped out.

not-locke takes sawyer to a cave in a cliff side [what an interesting trip that was, going down the cliff] to show him why he's on the island. written on the walls and ceiling of an inner cave are last names with numbers next to them. most of them are crossed out, except for 6. guess which 6. and next to those 6 are one of the numbers. jack was 23, sun and jin were 42 [it's by last name, so 2 for one], hurley was 8 [i think], sayid was 16, sawyer was 15, which leaves kate as 4. all the names are candidates for someone to replace jacob as the guru, now that he's dead.

i flipped the fuck out and started hyperventilating. total shock.

in other news!

i finally had to get a membership to mediafire so i could send fala 'boondock saints 2'. which, by the way, also had a "WTFAHHH" ending. because of fucking willem dafoe. he came back at the end, and it was open to a 3rd, if they so choose. the boys ended up in prison, but it looks like it'll be okay and not sucky and bitch-y and such, but smecker was talking about breaking them out or something. though, greenly and noah died, soo...

thursday is gonna be awesome. not the morning, but i don't count that. we start tessellations in math, which should be fun. and then. TEGAN AND SARA with STEEL TRAIN as one of the openers. YESSS!!!! excitement.

the fic-of-the-moment this time is from the USUK com by semebay, who wrote the epic canada-serial killer fill that i fell in love with. this is an AU with arthur as a recluse [sorta] who lives with the fae and sort-of[-but-not-really] controls them and who does random little magicks and herbal healing and just cool shit. and alfred is a semi-hero [he's got enhanced abilities] who keeps trying to be friends with arthur. and it's adorable at times, but dark and real. i love bay's voice and the way she writes arthur as a believable brit, not some american throwing in those random stereotypical words. fifteen chapters in and the fae have all escaped arthur's tenuous control and are wreaking havoc and killing people. cliffhanger: the last fae that still liked arthur has decided that alfred has to die since he was supposed to but arthur saved him and just GAHH.

thusly. [well, chapter 1. click 'next entry' for the next chapters]

olympics! germany is at the top right now with 9 medals, then america with 8, france with 7, canada with 5, and south korea with 4. both canadian hockey teams are kicking ass: the women whooped slovakia hard 18-0 a few days ago, switzerland yesterday 10-1, and the men just beat norway 8-0. is it weird that i'm cheering for canada more than america? sometimes i really wish i was canadian. i was practicing my accent at random times today. it was fun.

i decided to treat myself to some good quality bagels today. so i spent the rest of my birthday cash on a baker's dozen plus 2 tubs of cream cheese from panera. i can't wait! i made french toast for dinner. yummy cinnamon french toast.

my converse came for my embroidery project. they fit and all. i traced the open spaces on both so i know specifically how much i have to work with. i gridded my reference photos yesterday and will be gridding the print cloth and possibly the shoes [for placement purposes] tomorrow, along with at least laying out the large shapes. i am the master of the grid!

unrelated pic is unrelated. kinda. but mainly it's cute.

fuzz

i decided to try and clean my keyboard. so i systematically removed the tops of entire rows of keys and brushed out the insides. it still didn't fix my space bar problem.

and for some reason i had a really hard time spelling that correctly...

i added a couple more movies to my list. haven't downloaded them yet though.

yesterday i watched "the imaginarium of doctor parnassus" and "mirrormask". the sound ended up being off on 'parnassus', but i wasn't really watching the whole time so it didn't bother me as much as it would have otherwise. i found the cameos rather hilarious. so, heath ledger was tony, but when he went in the imaginarium with someone else, he became that someone else's version of him. so he was johnny depp, and jude law, and colin farrel.

i followed that up with 'mirrormask' because they are related in a sense: a different version of reality with the same people just different. it made sense in my head, ok?

i started my math final. i was going to cross stitch the whole thing, but realized how much work that's going to be. so i'm cross stitching some of it, then stitching that to the canvas and painting in the rest and drawing the tracks on top. hopefully it'll be awesome.

today i watched "wristcutters." which reminded me of "the lovely bones" so i had to torrent that. haven't watched it yet. the actor who was mr nick in 'parnassus' was also in 'wristcutters' as a similarly influential/powerful character, which i found pretty funny. and it took me the longest time to place the main actor, and finally had to look him upon imdb. he was paul trout in 'white oleander'. also, gogol bordello was featured quite prominently in the soundtrack, which made me quite happy.

happy valentine's day, i guess. first time alone in quite a few years. or am i misremembering the breakup with emily... probably... either way. the fills for the prucan exchange were due last night, and they've been posted all day. it made me happy to read all that sweetness and such.

which reminds me of why it can be fun to be friends with rpers on facebook. the canada i'm friends with has been being bro-tastic with an america, and i've been stalking their conversations. related: CANADA GOT IT'S FIRST GOLD WHEN HOSTING THE OLYMPICS! the other 2 olympics that have been in canada [calgary winter, montreal summer], they didn't get a single gold. but today they got gold in men's freestyle skiing. which is what the weird bro-ness started out being about and divulged into petting. weird.

i raided pixiv for olympics!canada pics. it made me happy, especially since annie had one.

i'm not sure if i was going to say anything else...

oh. my horrible procrastination habits are getting worse... that math final is due tuesday at 12:30 and it's barely started. i haven't printed the refs i need for ceramics or textiles. i'm avoiding those annotated bibliographies like the plague. the only productive thing i managed to do with weekend was laundry and my embroidery sample. i want to be able to start the shoes soon, but that's entirely dependent on when i actually get the shoes. hopefully tomorrow, because this is ridiculous...

man, i need to eat that caramel apple...

annie, why are you so awesome?

movie-downloading weekend!

i found [ok, joe etzine invited me] a site that lets you download movies for cheap. it's not free, not even the trial day, though that's only 99cents. so i was surfing through it for movies to download and found out the trial restrictions: only movies made before 2008 and in divx format. which is still a lot of movies. and those i can't download there i'm torrenting. and vary rapidly as well, which is awesome. i found about 7 movies to download from the site, and 5 more that i'm torrenting. it's quite a few lesser-known, kinda foreign films. foreign in the sense they're not american, though still in english. like canadian or british movies.

so, after all this downloading, my movie collection will be:
- 9
- Airplane!
- Angels and Insects
- Battle Royale
- Boondock Saints
- Boondock Saints 2
- Born of Hope
- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
- The Darjeeling Limited
- The Devil's Brigade
- The Emperor's New Groove
- Fire and Ice
- Franklyn
- The Hunt for Red October
- The Imaginarium of DoctorParnassus
- Inglorious Basterds
- Ink
- King Arthur
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Extended Edition
- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Extended Edition
- The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Extended Edition
- MirrorMask
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
- Nightwatching
- Passchendaele
- Perfect Creatures
- Phone Booth
- Pineapple Express
- The Prestige
- Puffball
- Requiem for a Dream
- The Secret of Kells
- Steamboy
- Tideland
- A Viking Saga
- Wristcutters

and that's quite an eclectic collection of movies.

as far as ficage, i found a fill that started out as what would happen if the UK broke apart: N Ireland went back to Ireland, and Scotland separated, but Wales stays. and now it's become WW3. and there's a lot of BAMF stuff going on, and an enjoyable assortment of OC nations. candesceres draw a few things for it, and i just picture her versions of the countries when i read it. it makes me incredibly happy that RoI is a girl and so is Mexico. there's sort of 2 versions of Israel too: Jacob, 'real' Israel, and Sarah, all the displaced jews around the world. the first parts are here and it's continued here and IT WAS JUST UPDATED SO NOW I MUST GO READ IT.

RELEVANT! Northern Ireland [male] and Republic of Ireland [female] by candesceres for 'Family Ties.'

ETA

wow, hetalia makes the olympics so much better! they were just pimping canada, and it was way more entertaining than i would have found it before. they even had kennedy's quote about the relationship between canada and the us. also, harper went before the parliament to encourage canadians to be loud and patriotic for their athletes, and they would apologize for their rudeness later. i loled.

ski jumping is on now. not the opening ceremony, for some reason. oh well, it's coming.

also, depressingly, someone died on the luge track this morning. a luge athlete from georgia [the country] lost control and flew off the track. they showed the footage.

first week!

first week! doneeee. well, it was done yesterday, but whatevs...

lessee.

english is pretty cool, i guess. jenny had lodge last semester and said he's pretty laid back and cool. there's a former soldier [i forgot which branch] in the class, he was in afghanistan. bryce and krystal are also in it. i'm slightly worried my topic will end up being german expressionism, which is cool and all [it's my favorite art movement], but i think i'm gonna end up bored with it. one of my other ideas was handwriting and how people develop their own styles. i know there's, like, personality tests or whatever based on how a person writes. i also thought of the specific importance and significance of bass lines in music, and the evolution of jazz into other music forms. and deep sea creatures, though i have no idea where i would go with that...

math is pretty fun. jenny is in my class, and theresa from textiles last sem, and krissy and corey. dude, thursday, i learned why perspective happens. and it blew my mind. like whoa. it's hard to explain, but it has to do with planes and how they intersect with your eye as a point in space and yeah. intense. it kinda blew my mind. and our first homework was to take a piece of plastic, tape it to a window, and trace what we see out of it. i did mine from the one window in the craft bathroom, looking across at the parking deck and the corner of rams hall. i thought it was pretty cool, but we'll see.

cinema seems like it'll be fun. jessica is in my class, so i sat with her. we watch a film noir, which was pretty cool up until, like, the last half hour-45 mins, when i was just confused. but still. i'm excited because we get to watch 'vertigo' and 'the royal tenenbaums' and some other movies i was excited about.

which reminds me: i need to 'rent' "the devil's brigade" from itunes. that trailer was hilarious, even though it wasn't meant to be. sometimes i'm such a history nerd...

ceramics may prove troublesome. i'm not terribly excited about it. our first assignment will be to sculpt a boot. maybe 'sculpt' isn't he right word, but yeah. it's also due on my birthday, so i really hope mine doesn't suck because that would be a terrible birthday present. no one i know in that class though...

and textiles. both mollys are in it, which should prove entertaining, along with one of the emilys. i'm definitely excited for that class. we're starting with some intense embroidering. it's structured basically the same as the other semester: one specific project on one technique, then the final which can be anything.

i finally got my bus pass today, so i shall FINALLY be venturing to ben franklin tomorrow. molly b mentioned a quilting shop next to ben franklin, so i'll have to check that out too.

today, being a completely free day of nothing has been interesting. i laid in bed, hitting snooze, for almost an hour. i had some toast, and stayed in bed till a little after 2 when i went to get my bus pass. when i got back, us 3 [me, liz, nicole] went to the gym to check out the pool. it's pretty sweet. there's a vortex, a slide, and a hot tub/jacuzzi, plus quite a few lap lanes. the process to get in for the first time was really confusing though, but hopefully it won't be so terrible next time. then we got 5 guys, which, if we had actually been working out, would have pretty much negated any exercise we got.

and then i took a shower and blow dried my hair with my new round brush. because i'm going to an 80s party at patrick's. i'm excited. i've got a tube top and wedges, which are pretty much the most 80s things i own. though i feel like my hair is more 60s than 80s... oh well. it's byob, so drinks i'll like will be slim pickin's, if at all. i'm not sure how to get liz to get 'bitch beers' for nicole and i. they may be almost alcohol-less, but they sure are delicious.

i wish i had 80s jewelry...

21 December 2009

owwwww

first of all: gosh, is my life so sad that all i can do is blog about it even though i know no one reads this? apparently...

that, and i'm wasting time, making it look like i'm doing something when i'm really waiting for one parent or other to go away...

anyway!

i'm unhappy that the movie extravaganza we just managed to schedule had to be derailed. stupid work. stupid lack of cars. oh well. i'm still seeing 'boondock saints' tomorrow!!

oh shit, that reminds me, i need to check to make sure i wasn't lying and it really is still playing...

ok. yes, it is, but checking wall posts reveals confusion on my part. i hate feeling left out.

work is starting to give me physical pain. i was already/still hurting from yesterday, and going up and down a ladder for probably close to 4 hours today has not helped. my feet are aching, my back hurts, my legs hurt, and i think i'm going to take a bath instead of a shower so i can just sit in toasty water for a while. mmmmmmm.

but i organized the entirety of wellness top stock in about 2 hours, and started organizing the extreme amounts of back stock for inventory next week. so i feel mildly satisfied. and when we were pulling into the neighborhood after work i remembered i didn't take a break, so that was 8 straight hours. no wonder i hurt! i'm definitely taking a break tomorrow, especially since it's truck day and i'll be lifting and bending and generally murdering my back for those first 3 hours. joy...

but in slightly brighter news, i finally got me some [supposedly, hopefully] intense tea to wake me up: irish breakfast tea! according to the box, it's intense, especially when compared to english breakfast tea. english is, apparently, meant to be enjoyed over a period. irish is a kick in the pants with caffeine! which is just what i need when getting up at stupid o'clock.

i was gonna say something and then i forgot...

oh! i'm working on catching up on all the fics i missed due to this whole snow thing and finally getting set up for christmas. last night we set up the tree and dad pulled out the moravian star and the hand-painted nativity set. even though i'm not religious, it was still nice to see the two family traditions together. as in, the star is from the fisher side and the nativity set is from the burhenn side. the moravian star became the star above the nativity. and i had to make sure the wise men weren't there yet because it's not epiphany. and it's weird that i would be concerned about that, considering my general non-religion...

apparently i got a package from woot at other-house. which is weird cuz i just checked my woot account and i haven't ordered anything since the wild parties shirt, which came already. i can only assume someone ordered it for me, but i have no idea who...

ugh, i need to work on my christmas presents... the only person i'm done for is matt. i've got half-presents for mom and dad, and i've barely started kat's... and christmas is friday! i should just stop catching up on fics and watch some doctor who and kit that hat. i'm also making fred at work a hat, though that's not exactly a top priority right now...

anyway, a pic, somewhat snow-related:

adorable canada and russia is adorable.

23 October 2009

today was fan-fucking-tastic

no lie.

yeah, it started off sucky with the whole, "WAKE UP, YOU'VE GOT BORING BIO LECTURE AT 9" thing. but right after, when i printed out the nietzcshe for english, i perused the awesome book sale in the library. today was the last day, so everything was 50% off: $1 hardcovers, $.50 paperbacks. yes.

i got 5 books for $3.50
- The Celts by Gerhard Herm
- An Encyclopedia of World History edited by William L. Langer [from 1952]
- A Short History of the Movies by Gerald Mast & Bruce F. Kawin
- Japanese Works of Art from Sotheby's London [a museum]
- Cinefex number 89

english was interesting. i never knew anything about nietzcshe and his whole "god is dead" thing actually isn't depressing. it was a really interesting class.

and then i went home [that was a sucky walk back...] and chilled for a while. and yasha called and we talked about stuff and this girl he's interested in while i read my new world history book. there are a lot of guys named 'frederick' in history... i really enjoy being a history nerd, i wish i had more opportunities to indulge as such. i think that's part of why i enjoy hetalia so much, it introduces me to new aspects of history. liiiiike how kickass canada was during the world wars. no joke.

anyway...

as i was getting ready to leave for laura's surprise party prep, emily IMs me from germany! we had a short convo. it was nice to hear from her. she reminded me that we reeeeeeeeeeelly need to do that LotR-a-thon. like no joke. and she's getting me something sweet from germany, but it's a surprise. i'm excited! also, she's 6 hours ahead over there. so as i type this it's 5:30a over there. and they use 24-hour time, which i find really awesome.

anyway... [god i use that word a lot]

so the party set-up was... interesting... ces and i were the first ones there, then anna found us, then kim and courtney. nicole didn't show till we were underway. we ended up wrapping a tree in streamers and a string of balloons and taping a giant cardboard '69' to the tree. it was... interesting... we also had bubbles. and another girl, sarah, showed up to help. but we weren't done by the time taylor and jenny showed up leading laura, so the reveal was total fail... but yeah.

we had random awkward fun by the tree for a while. i made a '69' keychain in jewelry [taking class time to do so] and also gave her a pic of yasha to symbolize his presence. nicole made a clay laura, kim baked brownies, anna gave her bacon soap and bacon bandaids and meatball gumballs. there were also funfetti cookies. it was pretty random. when we left we left the tree all decorated.

so then me, laura, anna, jenny, and sarah went to the commons for a snack, then the library for more book sales! they now had paper bags that were $5 and you just filled as much as you could. between the 5 of us we bought 2 and just went at it.

i got 7 more books for my $2 contribution:
- A History of the World in the Twentieth Century by D. C. Watt, Frank Spencer, Neville Brown
- Lorenzo Lotto: Convegno Internazionale di Studi 1980 a cura di [edited by] Pietro Zampetti e Vittorio Sgarbi [yes, i got a book in italian about the artist lorenzo lotto. i have no idea why, i can't really read it much anymore...]
- The Rival Queens by Fidelis Morgan [which i must lend to sarah when i'm done]
- The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum [it's a short catalog of sorts of some of the paintings, sculptures, and drawings in the new york guggenheim]
- The "Canary" Murder Case by S. S. van Dine
- Yankee's Main Dish Church Supper Cookbook
- Covering by Kenji Yoshino [another copy... in intend to do something arty with this one, like paper mache or something...]

i was really excited about all the practically-free books. we're meeting up right when the library opens in the morning to get anything that's left because we can.

and after that... i hung around the house for a bit more till angela got there. she was hitching a ride with liz and i to galaxy diner for her birthday dinner. ces went with nicole to get her car battery replaced, and they had an epic adventure. we got to the diner and had to work a bit to get tables for all 8 of us. i had a salad with chicken, since i had a bowl of cereal at the commons earlier. it was a fun dinner.

then me, nicole, ces, angela, and liz went to movieland to see zombieland. it was pretty sweet. cute at times, gorey at times, but fun all around. i had to hide a bit, and i watched one part without my glasses so i could still see what was happening without the grossness. fun times.

today really was awesome. i may have spent almost $20 on it, but that's okay. as long as i have $74 left in my account for the utilities it's all good.

and tomorrow is the zombie walk. i need to get paint for that...

12 September 2009

stir crazy

i'm going absolutely stir crazy right now.

i'm angry at nicole for flaking on the whole movie thing, especially since i only found out when i was ready to go. i just... need to not be in this house right now.

not that there's any issue, it's just... i feel trapped. and i was looking forward to at least not being in the house for a while... it's a fucking saturday night, and i'm sitting here going out of my mind.

i'm about ready to pack some random shit and walk to the compass. it's only 9, it can't be that bad out. i just can't be inside right now.

16 January 2009

nick and norah

so, i just got back from seeing 'nick and norah's infinite playlist' at the commons, and i really miss yasha.

it kinda sucks...

so, basically, nick and norah, among other things, end up driving all over new york listening to awesome music. and that's basically me and yasha, except, you know, in baltimore and the 'burbs, but whatever.

and as we were walking back to the dorm, i really just wanted to go driving with him. right then. no matter that it was 10:30 at night and he was almost 200 miles away. i just really wanted to. i'm still going through some serious yasha-withdrawals. and yeah, it does suck.

cuz i've done nothing today except sit in the dorm and watch things on a laptop. i watched, like, 3 episodes of 'monk' and 2 episodes of 'how i met your mother' and then i watched the last half of 'step brothers' in anna's room. i've got nothing to do with my life right now, and it's just bugging me. i felt really lame today, since i was doing abslutely nothing. i didn't even really eat out. i got a bagel to go for breakfast, ate that salmon pouch for lunch, and got subway on the way back from bubble tea [man, how i missed bubble tea!] which i proceeded to eat during scrabble in the alcove.

so. i'm not sure this is homesickness, per se, just missing-yasha-ness. yeah, i've got that bad...

man, i really wanna drive dover now! why does this suck?

maybe it has something to do with his birthday [that i missed] on wednesday, and the fact that no one told me what happened. well, he gave me a short overview: the surprise, watched 'pineapple express', played twister... but that's not enough for me. i still haven't seen any pictures up yet... and i was promised a ton of those from both jo and brit.

although, griping and blogging about this is only making it worse. and now i feel really bad...

ugh, reminds me of when he was doing all that fun stuff over the summer and i was being mopey and unpleasant...
