no lie.
yeah, it started off sucky with the whole, "WAKE UP, YOU'VE GOT BORING BIO LECTURE AT 9" thing. but right after, when i printed out the nietzcshe for english, i perused the awesome book sale in the library. today was the last day, so everything was 50% off: $1 hardcovers, $.50 paperbacks. yes.
i got 5 books for $3.50
- The Celts by Gerhard Herm
- An Encyclopedia of World History edited by William L. Langer [from 1952]
- A Short History of the Movies by Gerald Mast & Bruce F. Kawin
- Japanese Works of Art from Sotheby's London [a museum]
- Cinefex number 89
english was interesting. i never knew anything about nietzcshe and his whole "god is dead" thing actually isn't depressing. it was a really interesting class.
and then i went home [that was a sucky walk back...] and chilled for a while. and yasha called and we talked about stuff and this girl he's interested in while i read my new world history book. there are a lot of guys named 'frederick' in history... i really enjoy being a history nerd, i wish i had more opportunities to indulge as such. i think that's part of why i enjoy hetalia so much, it introduces me to new aspects of history. liiiiike how kickass canada was during the world wars. no joke.
anyway...
as i was getting ready to leave for laura's surprise party prep, emily IMs me from germany! we had a short convo. it was nice to hear from her. she reminded me that we reeeeeeeeeeelly need to do that LotR-a-thon. like no joke. and she's getting me something sweet from germany, but it's a surprise. i'm excited! also, she's 6 hours ahead over there. so as i type this it's 5:30a over there. and they use 24-hour time, which i find really awesome.
anyway... [god i use that word a lot]
so the party set-up was... interesting... ces and i were the first ones there, then anna found us, then kim and courtney. nicole didn't show till we were underway. we ended up wrapping a tree in streamers and a string of balloons and taping a giant cardboard '69' to the tree. it was... interesting... we also had bubbles. and another girl, sarah, showed up to help. but we weren't done by the time taylor and jenny showed up leading laura, so the reveal was total fail... but yeah.
we had random awkward fun by the tree for a while. i made a '69' keychain in jewelry [taking class time to do so] and also gave her a pic of yasha to symbolize his presence. nicole made a clay laura, kim baked brownies, anna gave her bacon soap and bacon bandaids and meatball gumballs. there were also funfetti cookies. it was pretty random. when we left we left the tree all decorated.
so then me, laura, anna, jenny, and sarah went to the commons for a snack, then the library for more book sales! they now had paper bags that were $5 and you just filled as much as you could. between the 5 of us we bought 2 and just went at it.
i got 7 more books for my $2 contribution:

- Lorenzo Lotto: Convegno Internazionale di Studi 1980 a cura di [edited by] Pietro Zampetti e Vittorio Sgarbi [yes, i got a book in italian about the artist lorenzo lotto. i have no idea why, i can't really read it much anymore...]
- The Rival Queens by Fidelis Morgan [which i must lend to sarah when i'm done]
- The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum [it's a short catalog of sorts of some of the paintings, sculptures, and drawings in the new york guggenheim]
- The "Canary" Murder Case by S. S. van Dine
- Yankee's Main Dish Church Supper Cookbook
- Covering by Kenji Yoshino [another copy... in intend to do something arty with this one, like paper mache or something...]
i was really excited about all the practically-free books. we're meeting up right when the library opens in the morning to get anything that's left because we can.
and after that... i hung around the house for a bit more till angela got there. she was hitching a ride with liz and i to galaxy diner for her birthday dinner. ces went with nicole to get her car battery replaced, and they had an epic adventure. we got to the diner and had to work a bit to get tables for all 8 of us. i had a salad with chicken, since i had a bowl of cereal at the commons earlier. it was a fun dinner.
then me, nicole, ces, angela, and liz went to movieland to see zombieland. it was pretty sweet. cute at times, gorey at times, but fun all around. i had to hide a bit, and i watched one part without my glasses so i could still see what was happening without the grossness. fun times.
today really was awesome. i may have spent almost $20 on it, but that's okay. as long as i have $74 left in my account for the utilities it's all good.
and tomorrow is the zombie walk. i need to get paint for that...

week of hellll
soooo portfolios are due monday. i'm pretty much done, i just need to fix my mp3, which is proving rather problematic. stupid thing wants to save to the computer when you click on the blackboard link....
anyway, everyone else's stress is making me a bit stressed, plus i've got a paper due friday in fi that i haven't even written. correction: i've written the opening paragraph. it's a then-now paper, written about an issue that is important today and comparing it to how important it was in the past and getting to the 'why' of the issue. i'm doing drug use and how the american government deals with it. a pretty interesting subject, but one i'm having trouble writing... probably because i have to do a lot of research.
but really, this is the worst week for a paper to be due - at least for afo students. there is virtually no time for any of us to spend on non-art things, since we've all decided that that takes precident over academics. i mean, this is our future here at college! i'd say it's pretty important.
but what makes it hard for me is 2 things: meds, and a trip home. i am completely out of meds, having used my last one last tuesday with the intent of writing this paper but instead nearly finishing my portfolio. and now i can't get more here, cuz the test i took says i don't have ADD, but the notes from dr zeiger say i do. inconclusive, and so they can't do anything for me. fucking a...
on top of that i have to go home tonight for an eye appointment in the morning. i'll be spending around 9 hours total on a bus and with no internet, making it hard to write that paper. and when i get back tomorrow i have to go almost immediately to drawing, and then the paper is due. i'm gonna have to knock it out when i'm home tonight, and finish it thursday night. this is not gonna be fun...
in other news, i went swimming yesterday! anna found the hours of the franklin street gym pool, and she and i and jenny went there for about 20 minutes yesterday before drawing. it was pretty cool, i guess. it was just for laps, and the swim club was practicing, and it was dark and grungy and stuff. but it was still nice to be able to do that. i ended up rushing through a shower when we got back to the dorm - i just washed my hair - and as a result managed to get shampoo in my eye in addition to the chlorine already there. not fun. it was the same eye that had the infection, too. and it still stings a bit.
oh, i didn't talk about my infection. after the flogging molly concert, we had to rush home cuz i had an eye appointment. i figured it was just the usual "how bad are your eyes" thing, but the doc got distracted by a more pressing issue: my red and unhappy left eye. turns out i had an inflamed cornea from wearing my contacts longer than they were really good for on tired eyes. i've been banned from contacts until i can go back - which was supposed to be last friday, but had to be rescheduled for tomorrow - and i got steroid eye drops to knock the thing out as fast as possible. my eye is all better now, but i'm still waiting till i go back to really start wearing my contacts again. i cheated and wore my last pair saturday for the belle isle trip, but it was only for, like, 8 hours.
alsooooo, yasha came down to visit last weekend! exciting! it was a bit strange, having 3 people in our room, but not too bad. he met ben, and we got bubble tea, and did fun things. we spent saturday at belle isle - it was practically a floor outing: me, cesley, anna, jenny, nicole, susan, emily, kelsey, laura, taylor, liz, ben, molly, and yasha. soooo exciting! yasha and molly really bonded, it was quite adorable. jenny found a toad that had been frozen, so we buried him and mourned. nicole delivered a very touching eulogy for poor toadie. and then on sunday yasha snuck out of the parking garage and didn't pay. exciting!
sunday night there was a fire on the 7th floor. some guy's phone charger started smoking and stuff. according to bed it smelled like burnt plastic for a while. and of course, this happened at 3am. i was sleeping. at first i didn't know what was going on, and i never really woke up. as soon as my heart stopped racing from climbing those dumb stairs, i was dead asleep.
i'm making a giant book for space. it'll be an open book, 4' x 2.5', with the story of 'the snow queen' coming out of it. i'm making a giant castle for in the middle out of slotted wood and hot glue and glitter, with various scenes arrayed around it. it'll be awesome! i get to buy a mirror and smash it!
okay, i think that's all the news and updates. i'm sleeping in bowe street next sunday night so i can turn my portfolio in nice and early. it'll be awesome!!

housing, fml...
sooooooooooooooooooooo
sign up for housing starts tomorrow. and i still have no roommate. i have no clue what cesley's thinking, but i can't count on her. i really don't want to room with angela, we just grate sometimes... i think she gets frustrated by my complete inability to do normal-people things, like make decisions...
i just ran into anna in the hall on my way to brush my teeth. it seems like she and jenny won't be rooming together like they had been planning. jenny's brother is pretty much making her live in ackell, but anna wants broad & belvedere. and then anna brought up laura and her roomie angie. so, i think there's talk of a quad now...
laura gets to sign up at 9, having number 62. she's gonna pull angie in with her. anna has 406, so that's 4p. and i've got 766, which is 10p. when laura signs up she's gonna figure out how the quad thing works to make sure you can get the 3 other people you want, since you can only pull one other person in with you.
but now i want to do that, even not knowing angie. but i like anna and laura, i think we would work well together. and i think it's good to not room with the same person all the time, cuz that just limits you and stuff. nothing against cesley, i think we could live together in the suite thing considering how well the dorm is going.
but yeah. i hope that works out.
on a completely different note, i've just started reading 'katekyo hitman reborn' and it is pretty awesome. unfortunately volumes 3-7 seem to be random filler shit... apparently things pick up in volume 8, but i'm currently stuck in 5. still it's fun and ridiculous, and i can see slash potential. >.< i'm horrible sometimes...
